Rain : By Gautam Khandelwal

http://www.familienzentrum-mosaik.de/It was rainy season in Pune, India. It was raining heavily when I was passing by Corporation bridge.  I had bad backache therefore I used to go by car everywhere those days.  I was feeling good that I am inside the car.  That was very crowded square, everybody was either inside some vehicle or under some roof. The roaring sound of rain was suppressing all other sounds. As I entered the square from a lane beside the bridge, I spotted a disabled beggar crying heavily in the mid of the circle on his sliding cart (with tiny wheels, the one generally beggars use). It was clear that he was trying to push hard his cart to cross the road and get under some roof. He was completely exhausted and was not able to move the cart. He was looking at the sky in between as if asking for help from God, the one who had given him those conditions. I saw him and passed him. But as I was driving away from him, I started feeling bad about him.  Then I thought what kind of people they are who are silently watching this man struggling. Then I thought what kind of person I am who is not helping him. There is a God within everyone of us, is he not calling the God within everyone? I took a U-turn, parked my car in the side of the road, opened my car’s door and went to the man. For a moment I didn’t even realize that I have started getting wet, then suddenly I picked the man with his cart. He was shocked and scared for a while. I dint talk to him  and ran towards the bridge. Poor guy was not heavy or he was heavy but I had to pick him up so I didn’t care. I dropped him under the bridge, I asked if he wants something else. He was so shocked he couldn’t even talk to me. I came to my car and drove away. Then I recalled that I have backache. But God helped me, the backache dint get sever due this incidence. But that feeling of being helpful to someone  still gives me a chance to be proud of myself.

Brother, you described the feeling which most of us go through, I’m sure. But you walked an extra mile where most of us give up.

  3. Thanks Gautam for sharing your story.

I agree with Alok that most of us would have let it go and it is really commendable that you went extra mile.
