No Arms… No Sweat!!!: By Kim Sullivan

http://hotelarnal.com/Recently, I was going through a challenging time in my life and would satisfy my chocolate craving every Tuesday with a chocolate milkshake from the local Dairy Queen.  Regardless of what time of day I stopped by the Dairy Queen each Tuesday, there was a young man with no arms, with another older gentleman who appeared to be his father.  This young man is truly one of the most amazing people to watch as he unwrapped and consumed his entire meal and drink, with no assistance from anyone, using his feet.  Each time I watched this young man, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and still today, I think of him when any challenging situation arises in my life.

Before crossing paths with this amazing human being, I have to admit that I took many of life’s blessings for granted.  Today, I am forever grateful for everything in my life, even the challenging situations that pop up every now and again.  I now see them as opportunities for growth and as I think of the young man at Dairy Queen, I know I can adapt to just about anything, just as he has learned to adapt to life without arms and hands.

Thank you for this opportunity to share how my life has changed for the better because of someone with a disability.  Disabilities are gifts from God!

  1. Thanks Kim for sharing your story.

I agree that in general we tend to take the blessings for granted and realize it when we see the other side.
